Field trip to local First Nations band, Squamish area

All are invited to this international graduate student research symposium on February 24/25, 2012 to recognize the conclusion of the UN International Year of Forests (Feb. 2011/12).

The Symposium will highlight much of the excellent research conducted both in Canada and the United States and is a tremendous networking opportunity for students interested in research with international impact. Presentations and posters include a broad range of topics and issues to reflect the breadth of research activities at UBC and UW:

–              Forests and environment

–              Products and technology

–              Markets and policy

Particular effort has been made to select topics related to the growing importance of indigenous peoples and forests.

Program at a glance:

February 24, 2012

8:30 am                Symposium presentations
4:00 pm                Poster session
5:00 pm                Schaffer lecture
6:00 pm                Symposium awards and reception

February 25, 2012 (NOTE: Space is limited, first come – first serve basis for registration)

8:15 am                Depart from UBC
10:30 am – 3 pm Site visit of local First Nations band (in the Squamish area), including traditional lunch
5 pm (approx.)  Return to UBC

$50 per person per day includes meals, including Schaffer lecture reception; bus and lunch for the field trip. Deadline for registration: February 10, 2012
