Several members of our group expressed an interest in having a book group. We started by meeting once a week for one semester, using the Aphasia Center of California’s Book Connection notes and reading “The Last Lecture”.
The following semester, we decided we would read “Stories from the Vinyl Cafe”. This way members of our group could read a chapter here and there without missing the story line. Also, having a book group day once or twice a semester allowed us to do other things, like focus on public speaking and student mentorship.
Our Book Group is now being run by one of our group members, who writes his own chapter summaries and questions and then has speech-language pathology students help him edit them. These summaries are available to members under the tab “Chapter Summaries”.
