Final push

As we enter w6, some reminders.

A) Your blog “closes” for the purposes of grading at 6pm, Mon 28th Nov, but you are encouraged to keep it going, either exporting it to another platform, or confirming with UBC IT that you can continue to keep long-term access, which I believe is the case.

B) The project should be presented to the client by Fri Dec 2nd, latest, and one team member should upload the relevant document(s) to the vista folder by 23h59, Dec 2nd.

C) Your individual reflection papers should be uploaded to Vista by 23h59 Dec 4th, at the latest.

There is no opportunity for a later submission. I have to finalize and submit grades by Dec 9th latest, and will post a final wrap-up note in this forum, around that time.

Good luck with finalizing all of this and with the client presentations.

Jose’s slides have been posted alongside the c5 slides.

class 5 agenda and comment on blog

Blogs: I’ve visited each of your blogs. In short courses the grading tends to all come at the end, but I wanted to reassure you that things look good. Most of you are doing fine – customizing and using this to enhance your learning. There are a couple of you that have very little posted (except for your review assignment) and you should get going asap – not doing this all on the last day.
Agenda:
•6-7.00: Speaker on analytics
•Break
•7.15-35 News
•7.35-7.55 Search (mini review)
•7.55 Occam’s razor – the go to resource on search
•8.00 Project – check-in with each team
–10 min to prep; 2 min live, specifics – challenges/issues
•8.30 Client presentations: tips
•8.35 Careers
•8.40 Course wrap
–summary of structure of learning from course
–Towards a step-by-step guide for any digital m-plan
•8.45-8.55 Evaluations
•End – by 9, latest.

Class 2

Hi eMarketers: looking forward to c2, Monday, 6pm. A reminder of the agenda follows below. We will be doing hands on work on website auditing and monitoring. You will need your laptops for this. You will typically work in pairs on this. You do not need to pair up with someone from your team, although you may choose to do so. It can be good to switch off during the session to find new partners, as you practice the exercises, using different companies and industries, not only your own for the project.

Note the other deliverables for tomorrow. You should all have your blog created and listed to the blogroll – so far, about half of you have done this, thanks. I would expect that you would all have a first blog post up by early this week, if not already.

You should also ensure that you are signed up to PulsePress for in-class postings. See the instructions provided previously.

At about 8.30 tomorrow, I will circulate around each of the 8 groups, and want to discuss your project outline with you. I know that this is a bit tricky, as you are only in c2 – but with compressed courses we have to get you moving. You should aim to e-mail me something in writing before the class to enable a structured discussion. Even if it includes some Qs that is ok. The intent is for me to be able to give you some feedback, and for you to have the basis of a workplan.

Slides will go up sometime before class, but you should not need to print them.

Finally, given that your book/article or topic review is due by c3, you should have your theme picked. If you are struggling with this, talk to me at the end of class 2.

Lots going on, I know, but with only 5 classes for the whole elective we need to rock and roll forward. If you are systematic about it then you will find it works through nicely. But a rapid start is important.

Password for blogroll

By class 1 you should have created your blog. To add to the blog-roll (as requested) you need a password. It is: bama513

Tricky, I know. You will see my blog added already. The intent is that we can all see each other’s blogs. Please make the privacy settings public – otherwsie it defeats several purposes of having a public blog, not least my ability to grade it!

I’ve uploaded a template for the project into the Vista folder. We’ll discuss in class 1.

Slides are in Vista: 3 per page in pdf. There is no need to print unless you really like using lots of printer ink. They are for back-up on the conversation.

Welcome to BAMA 513: Internet Marketing

Welcome to the Course Blog of BAMA 513: http://blogs.ubc.ca/bama513/

This is where course announcements and communications will be posted.

You are expected to create and maintain your own Personal Blog, and add the link to your own blog to the Blogroll listed on the sidebar of the Course Blog. Password will be supplied in class 1.

For instructions on how to register for UBC Blogs and create your own blog, please visit the Dr. Blog first step tutorials (tutorials can be found under the ’1st steps’ section in the top menu).

For instructions on how to add your Personal Blog URL to the Blogroll, please view this Dr. Blog tutorial. Ask your instructor or TA for the password to add your blog URL.

In addition to the BAMA 513 Course Blog and your own Personal Blog, there is also a PulsePress Live Discussion tool for you to use during class. You can think of PulsePress as a course-specific, Twitter-like tool. It is located at: http://blogs.ubc.ca/bama513pulse/ .

In order to use PulsePress, you must be a registered, enrolled user of that particular PulsePress. In order to enroll for the BAMA 513 PulsePress, you must:

  • Log in to UBC Blogs.
  • Visit the BAMA 513 PulsePress
  • In the sidebar on the right, find the ‘Enroll for this PulsePress’ tool.
  • Enter the password (ask your Instructor or TA for the password).
  • Click the ‘Add Me’ button.

More information on PulsePress, and on the enrolment process, can be found on Dr. Blog under the PulsePress section. In this way, you will have two publising options in class.
