About

What’s a blog?

A blog (short for web log) is like your own personal web site! The author – called a blogger – creates entries, just like writing in a journal. There are blogs on any and all topics imaginable – in fact, there’s a new blog born every half second!

What does the Blog Squad do?

The Blog Squad is a group of students  that have been chosen to write about their experiences at UBC. They write about a wide range of topics, from academics to sports to movies. They allow anyone to easily see what student life at UBC is really like.

How Do I Get On the Blogsquad?

Check out the Join Blogsquad! section on the website.

What do the different Blog Squad categories mean?

There are a few different categories for involvement in the Blog Squad:

1st Year Blog Squad: This group is limited to about 10 first year students. You’ll be provided with support, some training and you’ll be part of a community of other first year student bloggers.

2nd Year Blog Squad: This is the group of active bloggers who choose to continue with the Blog Squad after their first year. This group may provide some mentorship/training for the first year bloggers.

Blog Squad Contributers: This is a new category of bloggers who likely already blog on academic related matters, don’t need support, but want to contribute to the community.

Of course I love the Blog Squad.
I would love to have our UFV International students do something similar, of course on a much smaller scale. Does someone on staff have to approve your posts before they go up, or is there a general agreement beforehand that certain material will not be posted?
      keep up the good work,

I came across the Blog Squad and love the concept; of course would like to institute it here; just out of curiosity, does someone on staff have to approve content before it is published?

      Hi Carol,

No, nobody moderates before. We just have an agreement before and then if something that seems inappropriate comes up we talk to the individual blogger. One important thing that we wanted to achieve with the blog squad was to capture both the positive and negative experiences at UBC. It has been a great experiment as not only have the positive experiences overwhelmed the negative ones, but staff and students have been able to respond to negative reactions and improve the situation.
