I think it’s important for all librarians to contextualize open access, open search and mashups in terms of copyright and remix culture of the 21st century. Do disruptive notions like remix threaten copyright? If so, how?
The National Film Board of Canada has recently produced a film entitled “In RiP: A remix manifesto“. It’s produced by Web activist and filmmaker Brett Gaylor who explores the myriad issues of copyright in the information age.
His film also looks at transformation including mashing the media landscape of the 20th century and shattering the wall between users and producers. Why are the walls still there? seems to be the subtext.
