Meet UBC Land and Food Systems Group 13!

Mikayla Francis is in her final year of the Food, Nutrition and Health program. She enjoys an active lifestyle and prefers to spend her time outdoors. Her favourite activities include hiking, kayaking, swimming and healthy eating.

Dustin Bright is a 3rd year undergraduate student in the Global Resource Systems program, specializing in sustainable agriculture and East Asia. He has bicycled through various countries, and spent three years teaching English and learning Mandarin in Taiwan before commencing studies at UBC in 2013. He hails from Toronto and feels most comfortable when on a bike.

Marissa Alexander is a 4th year Dietetics student. She is passionate about nutrition and the ability it has to make people feel connected. Throughout her travels she has found that food really is a force that can bring people together and make them feel close. She hopes that she can continue to combine her passions of food and travelling when she finishes her degree.

Michelle Kim is a 3rd year in the Dual Degree program, majoring in Food Nutrition and Health alongside a bachelor of Secondary Education. She has always been interested in helping high school students with body image issues related to food. Another growing passion has been food security for vulnerable families which ties in well with the goals of this project!

May Hasegawa is a 3rd year Food, Nutrition and Health student, born and raised in Vancouver. She is an avid cook, professional eater and a crazy dog lover, with a passion in encouraging others to engage with what they eat.

Marilee Pumple is a 3rd year Dietetics student born and raised on Vancouver Island. As a student passionate about health and wellness, Marilee strives to encourage others to live a balanced lifestyle through their relationships with food. She is also an avid yoga enthusiast, amateur chef and lover of all vegetable-inspired desserts.
