Good day!!!

Sylvia Helmer has generously offered to present a S/EAL session to the Secondary Teacher Candidates of EDUC 316C on Thursday, November 10th at 8:30 AM in Scarfe 100. The presentation will be similar to the one that Sylvia delivered last year.

Please advise whether or not your cohort will attend the session (8:30-10:20, Thursday, November 10th in Scarfe 100).  R.S.V.P. to bruce.seney@ubc.ca

Special Presentation for Elementary Program: Communication Practices of Aboriginal Children and Families

Deb Martel, Assistant Director, First Nations House of Learning has generously agreed to give the above presentation on Monday March 12th from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and again from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. in the Sty-Wet-Tan Great Hall in the First Nations House of Learning.

Special Presentation for Secondary Program – Lyn Daniels, Aboriginal Education District Vice-Principal, Burnaby

Mike Greenway and I wish to confirm that we have booked Scarfe 100 for the morning of Thursday, “Movember” 17th, 2011 to facilitate an EDUC 316C (Secondary)  presentation by Lyn Daniels, Aboriginal Education District Vice-Principal from Burnaby School District. We will meet and greet and set up her presentation at 8:30. Secondary Teacher Candidates are invited to attend Lyn’s presentation from 9:00 to 10:15. Scarfe 100 will be booked for a total of 2 hours (from 8:30 to 10:30).

Many thanks to Mike Greenway for coordinating this wonderful opportunity.

EAL Elementary Large Lectures Rescheduled

The two presentations on “The Communication Needs of EAL students” scheduled for Wednesday October 12th 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday October 19th 12 Noon to 1:30 p.m.  HAVE BEEN RESCHEDULED.  The presentations will now take place in:

Scarfe 100 on Monday February 27th at 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. and at 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.

A huge thank you to Sylvia for agreeing to give this presentation and to Jennifer for relentlessly finding a space large enough for the presentations.

Reminder regarding Secondary Instructors’ Meetings

Just a reminder that the Secondary Instructors of EDUC 316C are scheduled to meet three times during the Fall Term:

Thursday, September 15 – Scarfe 304A – room avail @ 12:30; meeting to start @ 12:45. The focus of the session will be the e-portfolio.

Thursday, November 03 – Scarfe 304A – room avail @ 12:30; meeting to start @ 12:45.

Thursday, December 01 – Scarfe 304A – room avail @ 12:30; meeting to start @ 12:45. Please note that the December meeting will be a joint 311/316C session and will be celebratory in nature.
