CLASS

The other day, I registered for CLASS (Conference for Learning and Academic Student Success). The conference aims to ease the transition for first-year and transfer students entering the University of British Columbia. The extravaganza spans over a five day period; from Monday, October 24th to Friday, October 28th. This unique resource allows students to create a schedule that works for them, as they select workshops and subject-specific seminars to attend. So far, I’ve registered for three events:

  • Building Individual Brand (Tuesday)

This workshop was designed to educate first-year and transfer students on the power behind social networks as they attempt to create a professional online brand.

  • Be Bold. Be Heard. (Thursday)

This workshop was designed to guide students as they expand their communication/networking skills in an effort to gain the attention of potential employers/professors.

  • CLASS Closing Ceremony (Friday)

The Closing Ceremony was designed to allow students and presenters an opportunity to interact in an informal setting. If that doesn’t sound appealing, there are always raffle prizes up for grabs. The more CLASS  workshops you attend, the better your chances are at winning!

There’s also going to be a CLASS Resource Fair taking place at the Irving. K. Barber Library, 2nd Floor Foyer on Monday, October 24th from 1-3pm. Make sure to swing by, and register for workshops while you have the chance!

Better Late Than Never

Hi there! I’m Emely; a first-year student in the faculty of arts who has managed to procrastinate her first Blog Squad post until the middle of October. Then again, I’ve always heard that the first step is the hardest. If so, I can’t wait for the second! Hopefully, I’ll be posting at least once per week; with midterms over and donw with, I’ll have nothing else to do anyway (aside from pre-final-exam-preparation).                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            So, you may be wondering what I’ve been up to since September other than procrastinating this post. Well, here goes somewhat of an explanation..                                                                                                                                                                  Academics (5 Courses/Term) – This Term:

Personal Life
  • Sleep (and ALOT of it.)
With a couple of nine-to-five days per week and a cornucopia of events constantly taking place in and around campus, it’s been a struggle finding the time to relax and take it all in. Nevertheless, the adventure has been worth it. Best part is, it’s only just begun.

Hello world!
