MA Funding Opportunities – Canadian Graduate Scholarships and Affiliated Fellowships

The UBC application deadline for the Tri-Agency Canadian Graduate Scholarship Master’s (CGS-M) and Affiliated Fellowships Master’s Competitions is Tuesday, 1 December 2020 at 5:00 pm PST!

CGS-M ($17,500 /12 months)

To apply, you must be a domestic student (Canadian citizen or permanent resident) who is applying for or enrolled in graduate studies in Canada. To be considered for a CGS-M at UBC, you must select UBC as one of the 3 available institutions (each applicant can select up to 3 universities with the same application).

Check out the eligibility and evaluation criteria on the official CGS-M page or on the UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website.

If you are eligible for the CGS-M, you must submit a CGS-M application in order to additionally be considered for Affiliated funding (applying for CGS-M will automatically put you into consideration for open/un-restricted Affiliated Fellowships). To be considered for criteria-based Affiliated Fellowships, check out the application procedures on the UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website and the list of available awards here.

Affiliated Fellowships ($175 – $16,000)

You can apply for an Affiliated Fellowship award regardless of citizenship or visa status, so long as you are applying for or enrolled in full-time graduate studies at UBC.

Check out the list of criteria-based Affiliated Fellowships here. More information on Affiliated Fellowships can be found on the UBC Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies website.

Important Notes

      • CGS-M applications cannot be submitted or edited after the application deadline. Late applications will be ruled ineligible. The CGS-M application deadline is set nationally and is not flexible.
      • Approach your professors/mentors for a reference letter now. If they agree, be sure to send them the instructions.
      • Current MA students: if your non-UBC transcripts have been received and approved by G+PS, Christie may have access to those transcripts; they can be used for your CGS-M application. Christie can also produce an internal copy of your UBC academic record acceptable for this call, i.e. you do not need to order an official UBC transcript. Please email Christie now regarding your transcripts – please do not wait!
      • UBC transcript key: as noted in the instructions, all transcripts must include one copy of the transcript key/legend. The UBC transcript key is attached to this message.
      • From G+PS: it would help us greatly if applicants used the same email in their CGS-M Research Portal login as in SISC. This is absolutely not a requirement, but it helps route the applications to correct programs quicker after the application deadline.
