MET – Transcripts question answered
Jul 3rd, 2007 by Dave Roy
This question comes up often enough that I thought I’d blog about it. Hopefully, this post will be of some use to you if you’re thinking about applying to the MET program.
One of the document requirements for MET applicants is the following:
“two transcripts are required from each post-secondary institution you have attended. All transcripts and degree certificates must arrive at UBC in sealed and endorsed envelopes issued by the Registrar of your home institution to be considered official.”
The question I often get is something like this:”I went to Capilano College (or some other institution) and took a few courses, then transferred those courses to UBC. Do I need to send in the Capilano transcript?”
The answer is yes. The Faculty of Graduate Studies wants transcripts from all post-secondary institutions. It doesn’t matter if they were used as transfer credit. They still must be submitted.
On the other hand, if you attended a university for a one-off course that wouldn’t even appear on the transcript, please don’t include that university on your application. We’ve had a few applications where the applicant puts, for example, the University of Ottawa on his/her application. When I then ask why we haven’t received the transcript yet, the response is “I took a seminar there one summer. There wasn’t a grade, and it doesn’t appear on a transcript.” It’s a lot easier and more efficient if you just leave it off completely.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions.
