MET – International Applications and the Application Deadline
May 11th, 2009 by Dave Roy
It’s getting close to May 15, the application deadline for a September start in the MET degree program. The deadline for certificates (TBDL and TBLS) is June 30, so you’ve still got a little time in for that.
Today’s post is about international applications. We pride ourselves on the fact that we have students from all over the world in the MET program. This last year alone, we serviced students in 17 different countries, though some of them were Canadian citizens living abroad. Overall, we’ve had students from over 30 countries.
This post, however, regards those with international credentials. Thus, even if you live in Vancouver, this post may apply to you if you went to school in India or Japan or wherever. As is the usual practice in probably almost everything with an application deadline, we get a ton of applications on the day of the deadline. Unfortunately, we’re different, as are most other degrees and universities, in the sense that we need more than just your application. We also need all of your transcripts and references as well. This can present a problem for international applicants.
If you have international credentials, it is imperative that you either apply to the program early or at least start working on getting your documents to us beforehand. If you’re applying close to the application deadline, you may have to have your transcripts sent to us via FedEx or some other courier, as there is no way they’re going to arrive on time via regular mail.
If you are considering applying for a September start, and you’re concerned about whether your documents will arrive in time, there is always the certificate option. The deadline for certificates is June 30, which does give you plenty of time.
One final note on international documents, and it’s very important. Important enough that I’ve blogged about it before, but I’ll mention it here again. Please follow the Faculty of Graduate Studies guidelines on transcript submission . Please keep these requirements in mind when you’re having your transcripts submitted. Nothing slows down the application process more than having to request second copies because the first ones are invalid for some reason. When you’re talking the time delay for international documents, it gets even worse.
As is usual, you can contact me if you have any questions.
iam from India, working as a Lecturer in Educational Technology & Multimedia. Iam interested to Pursue Ph.D. in ET and e-learning. Can you suggest the ways to approach Faculty members regarding their interest to guide Research students.
Regards,
Felix
Thanks for the comment. Are you asking for yourself? If so, I would suggest doing a little research to see what they are currently working on, finding an appropriate faculty member, and then just sending a quick email.
Either that, or you can email the department you’re thinking of applying to and seeing if they have a list of faculty and research topics that they have.
Good luck!
