Sept. 2010 and Jan 2011 MET applications open
Jan 14th, 2010 by Dave Roy
With January ETEC courses going like gangbusters, it’s time to turn our attention to our next intake of new MET students. Since we don’t have a May intake (though we do have May courses), our next intake of students is for a September 2010 start.
The deadline for this is May 15, and we already have a number of applications, so thank you to you early birds. For those of you applying to one of the certificate programs (TBDL or TBLS), your deadline is June 30.
The deadline for January 2011 applicants is October 15.
I recommend that you apply as early as possible, especially if you are considering other programs. While our deadlines are later than most programs, it is still possible to get an early admission to the program so that you know where you stand. Since we do not wait until the deadline to evaluate completed applications, it can only benefit you to complete your application as soon as possible.
There’s also another reason for you to have your application complete before the deadline. (a “complete” application means that you have applied as well as supplied all relevant documents, meaning transcripts, references, TOEFL if necessary, etc). In years past, we have received 10-15 applications on the deadline date or a couple of days before. Obviously, unless these applicants only have UBC transcripts (which they do not have to provide to us as we can look up their record) and their references fill out the online reference form immediately, there is no way that they can be complete by the deadline. As long as these applicants can complete their applications within a week or so of applying, we have generally been ok with it.
This year, that might not be the case. We haven’t decided exactly what will happen, but it will be much less likely for an application that is not completed by the deadline to be approved and forwarded to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.
So make sure you apply early, especially if you have international credentials. It takes time for international transcripts to reach us by mail, and courier can be quite expensive.
I will be posting and tweeting this reminder periodically up until May.

We look forward to seeing your application.
