Podcast ideas?
Mar 2nd, 2010 by Dave Roy
After my last podcast post, I started getting excited about the whole idea of doing a podcast. I’ve spoken to a couple of people in the office, and they thought it was a great idea to do a weekly (or regular, anyway) podcast too. We started exploring ideas for how it might work, and we all went back to our desks to do a little more research and brainstorming. I wrote down a few ideas both for content and format, another person is doing some research into what our technical requirements would be, and I think it might actually happen. Though again, don’t hold your breath because it will be a while even if it does happen. We wouldn’t want to lose any readers!
Here’s the current roadblock that I’m working on, and I figured that I would see if any of you had any ideas. Basically, how would you make a quirky, interesting podcast about a relatively dry subject like information about our various graduate and undergraduate courses and programs. How do you spice that up a little bit? And since this would be an audio-only podcast, Las Vegas dancers are not an option.
One idea that occurred to me is to comment on a news story of some sort that incorporated Educational Technology in some way. I’ve definitely put that on my list of ideas.
This would be a MET/EPLT podcast, so it wouldn’t just be about the MET program. I think this would give a broader base of stuff to talk about than just MET, though there would certainly be a lot of MET content as well.
But what would entice you to listen? Keeping in mind that, while the idea is to promote our programs, we also would want to have regular listeners. Thus, we would have to walk a fine line between promotion and other interesting subject matter.
So what would keep you listening, even if we enticed you to do it once? Thoughts?
Good idea! What would entice me to listen would be some ‘what I’m doing now’. I would be very interested in how grads of MET programs are using their knowledge and skills; maybe ‘a day in my life’, where individuals talk about their day and their projects?
That is an excellent idea, Brenda!!! We’re also looking at things like current research projects, that sort of thing.
Of course, it won’t be limited to MET students/stuff. It will be an EPLT podcast, so there will be other things that we are doing.
Thanks for the suggestion!
