WHAT IS E-WASTE?

E-waste can be defined as any garbage created by discarded electronic devices and components, as well as substances involved in their manufacture or use. With the fast pace growth and advancement of technology, many forget about the environmental implications this tech evolution is creating. Electronic waste is said to be the fastest growing source of waste in North America, with serious consequences as electronic equipment frequently contains hazardous, toxic substances, especially when these pollutants are burned or recycled in uncontrolled environments.

Around the world, a number of initiatives have arisen to address the issue of e-waste. Solutions include the reuse of electronic devices  and their components (e-cycling), as well as mandating safer alternatives to hazardous substances disposal.
