Welcome

Welcome to the Constructivist Permutations Class.

Do you know how many combinations there are to sit 100 people at a wedding? (If you just sighed, then you know someone who has tried to do this insurmountable task!) Would you guess more than a billion combinations or less?

How many winning lottery ticket combinations are there? More than a trillion or less?

How easy is it to crack a safe? If it has 3 positions and you can use numbers from 0 to 9? More or less than 500?

If you put your hand in a bag of coloured balls (5 colours) and take out 3, how many different possible combinations do you have?

Write down your approximate guess for each one of these questions on a piece of paper and a reason why you think each answer is around that number.

Statistics allows you to work these out. They are called Permutations and Combinations.

This course will take the mystery out of these terms.
