For when things go wrong…

Ahem. Now that we’re all relaxed and feeling the endorphins from watching the most entertaining thing known to man, I’ll say hi.

Hi!

Like the title says, my name is Lindsay. I have never blogged before but even though I want to major in some form of biology, I LOVE to write. Well not so much the action of writing itself… I more enjoy the feeling afterwards. It’s brain-er-cise.

I’m from Victoria. It’s okay, I guess. Very quiet, and not much to do unless you’re a tourist. We have tons of low quality movie theatres here that I like to peruse from time to time, but that’s about it. The scenery around here saves the island. Nature rocks.

Anyways, it’ll be great to meet all of you. Maybe you can teach me some stuff about fancy fonts and things. And not using “stuff” and “things” in the same sentence… Wow.

Signing out!

Lindsay (but my friends call me Pinz)

ps. Eastwood! I saw your email on the contact list thing on the email we got sent! I used your website all this year for practicing provincial exams! You are my History, Chemistry and Physics God! Same with my friends. We bow down to you.

  • Go for it!

Pheobe, I would definitely go for the September issue. After all, nothing is better than a good fashion magazine (although I’m a Cosmo gal myself). Those timbits sound like a pretty good idea too…

I’m Jayne, by the way, and it looks like I am the only person on the squad with absolutely zero experience blogging. I did keep a diary when I was about 14 that lasted for a good two weeks, a record for me. Mostly I end up losing all the loose bits of paper that I write on, so having somewhere to write that won’t end up in the laundry is probably a good thing for me.

My background is pretty typical. I was raised by wolves until about age ten when I was discovered by talent scouts from the circus. My howling at the moon was such a big attraction that I quickly moved up through the ranks until a fire decimated all the wagons and the troupe had to go their own ways. I chose to go to university because Im not really qualified to do anything else…

I can also be a bit of a liar. (more…)

  • *WAVES* Hi Everyone!

I’m Phoebe and I have too many blogs to count. I really envy people like Lizzy and Eastwood (posts below) who managed to keep their personal blogs going for so long! I’m more of a theme blogger and that’s why this UBC experience will probably be a blast for me!

    So me in a nutshell:

Faculty: Commerce, currently overloaded with WAY too many electives.

Background: Sir Winston Churchill grad, Vancouverite for the past three years, Londoner from Ontario before that, Torontonian before THAT… the list goes on.

Most Excited About: the 6th Harry Potter Movie MEETING PEOPLE AT UBC! Especially Blog Squad folks who are 1337% cooler than the general public.

Can Usually Be Found: lurking on Facebook, working multiple jobs, coding another website, trying to decide whether to splurge on the enormous September Vogue issue or a box of Timbits… or both =P

Currently listening to: “30/90″ – tick, tick, BOOM!

Hey there! I’m Mary, and I’m not really new to this blogging business. In fact, I recally my very first blog at the age of fourteen: an angst-filled dustbin for mindless trash – oh, the memories I’ve tried to suppress of capslock and exclamation marks dancing across pages. Ugh. Currently, I have a Livejournal and a WordPress, so feel free to poke around. I assure you, I’ve improved from my young and stupid days.

    Quick Snippets of Information:

Faculty: Arts (hopefully majoring in Psych OR French, I haven’t quite decided!)

Other Pertinent Bits: Francophile, musical theatre geek/freak, hat-and-scarf wearer, tea drinker, is never sarcastic, cannot tell left from right, semi-British accented, bitten by the travel bug.

That’ll be it for now, and I most certainly can’t wait to meet all of you!

    Cheers,
    Mary

  • Well, here we are at the beginning!

I wasn’t too sure what would be the best way to launch my blog, but since I’m already at UBC, I figured I’d save an introduction for a little later, as there is just so much going on here already!

I’m lucky enough to have been able to be a part of JumpStart this fall, so my first day on Campus was the 12th August. About 180 of us international students have been housed on Campus, Walter Gage Towers,  with some amazing facilitators doing their utmost best to make this transition a smooth and stimulating one.

I had definitely, without a doubt, underestimated the scope of the diverse ethnicities and cultures I’d be coming into contact with. It’s really difficult to compare anyone here to anyone I’ve ever met before. I have never in my life been surrounded by such an incredible eclectic mix of cultures and ethnicities. We have somehow managed to represent all continents, most states in america, MANY parts of Asia, a much greater chunk of Africa than expected, Europe is up there and let’s not even get into the Scandinavians! I was all prepared to be the lone South African Representative, but no, I am happy to report we’ve sent a few of our best! (more…)

  • Poke.

Hello my fellow future-Blog-Squaders. I’m Lizzy, also a kind-of blogger who’s had my own going for much too long now. I’m probably slightly older than most of you ’cause I spent two years overseas after highschool before deciding to pick a path (or at least a vague direction leading to a path) and settle down for school somewhat closer to home. My base for the past decade has been Chilliwack, the city famous for sweet corn that’s generally not too far (traffic-dependent) from UBC. Keeping that in mind, I guess it’s appropriate that I’ll be studying in the faculty of Land&Food this year, focusing on food & nutritional sciences and then, well, I’m not actually sure what I want to do with that yet but something along those lines anyway.

Um, oh yes, I will be staying in Vanier as well and spending the most of my free time the first little while trying to minimize my occurrences of getting utterly lost on campus and trying to master the city public transit system.

Ciao for now, looking forward to meeting the rest of you all soon. =D

  • Getting This Party Started…

    Howdy!

My name’s Eastwood and I, too, will be stepping into the unknown realms of “Youbeesee” in about a week’s time. I’ve had my own blog for nearly 2 years now… so I guess I’m somewhat accustomed to blogging.

    A Little Bit About Myself?

Well… following Humaira’s footsteps, here it comes:

I’m a local — went to school at Lord Byng Secondary. I’ll be heading into the Sauder School of Business for a combined major in business and computer science. Hmm… what else is there? Oh, right: I’ll be staying at Vanier, even though my home’s in Vancouver (thought I wanted to get some experience of campus life!).

Alrighty, that’s about all for now. Looking forward to meeting everyone! :D

  • Welcome!

    Hey guys,

This is my little hello to you all. I have a ton of things to do, so this stays short and sweet. I’m excited to have you all blogging and can’t wait to meeting you guys. If you’re in town already, or will be soon, send me an email (sdassist@exchange.ubc.ca) or let me know on Facebook and we’ll meet up for a bite and a chat!

I thought it would be fun if we got to know each other a bit, so I’ll start off with:

    Name: Humaira Hamid

Faculty: Sciences (General Biology major, Psychology minor — going into 4th year)

Favorite fruit: I’m partial to dried apricots, gala apples and nothing beats a nice juicy watermelon on a hot summer day.

I am currently: quasi freaking out because August is two-thirds of the way over and I still have muuuucho to do. But also pretty excited because this year (I have pledged myself) will be my best year yet!

You can stick to these categories or make your own. I’m am now off to taper down the million things leering at me from my to-do list.

    Toodles! ~ Humaira
