Determining whether our online professional development environment and interactivities are effective will be determined in several ways. At the end of the professional development, there are reflection questions for participants to answer in the wiki forum. Our aim is to have both metacognitive and lower-level reflections, so that there are some simple, “yes, I can do that” responses to build confidence and ensure basic skills, as well as higher level synthesis to encourage deep reflection on the process of creating materials for students. This gives participants an opportunity to discuss their successes, challenges and reflections with others, thereby deepening the learning experience. Because a wiki is a collaborative artifact it is a key component of building a community of practice.
