The Veterinary Medical Library, as a gateway to the world’s biomedical information, is dedicated to excellence in support of the College of Veterinary Medicine’s mission, the advancement of knowledge, lifelong learning, and consumer health. This professional librarian position is essential to ensure the physical and virtual “gateway” functions as expected by managing the operations of the Veterinary Medical Library. Instruction, collection development, supervision of others, directing daily operations, oversight of special services for the professional students, faculty, staff and graduate students is significant. This is a key planning position for this professional library serving veterinary medicine, consumer health and other health care professionals.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library Science or equivalent
Professional experience working in a medical or similar professional library with a strong service expectation; experience with in-person and online instruction; reference services; experience and proficiency with using current and emerging technologies, including learning management software, experience supervising employees completing a wide variety of complex tasks requiring attention to detail and public service; experience working in an environment requiring an understanding of confidential and/or proprietary information; demonstration of ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent written communication as demonstrated by application materials., demonstrate an interest in teaching students and experience with assessment of student learning; experience as a project director from conception to completion.
Excellent oral and written communication skills are required and the employee is expected to use various communication methods/techniques including formal presentations to faculty groups or one-on-one sessions on how to search complicated literature databases; ability to work with faculty committee(s) to establish and achieve desired results; problem solving skills and creativity in using various types of resources to achieve results; outstanding customer service; ability to plan, develop and administer programs and tasks—many of these tasks are performed by supervising others. Well-developed communication skills are essential in representing the VM Library to college personnel, Hale Library, KSU, and the public. Well-developed supervisory skills are essential. An understanding of confidential matters and protection of proprietary information is critical.
