The Hudson’s Bay Company Archives (HBCA), a division of the Archives of Manitoba, is the permanent home to one of Canada’s national treasures – the records of the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC).  HBCA is supported by the Hudson’s Bay Company History Foundation and the Province of Manitoba.  Under the general direction of the Keeper, HBCA, the Archivist assists in the administration of archival records through activities related to the acquisition, control, description, access, and preservation of the holdings.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications:

Essential:
  • University graduate studies in archival studies or a related discipline. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Experience working as an archivist in a recognized archival institution.
  • Experience in the facilitation of access to archival records.
  • Understanding of archival appraisal and acquisition.
  • Knowledge of the use of techology in an archival setting to facilitate access to records and management of digital content.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated flexibility to adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Strong interpersonal skils with the ability to work with staff and clients with tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Strong oral communication skills including ability to make presentations and conduct tours.
  • Strong written communication skills.
Desired:
  •  Verbal and written ability to communicate fluently in French.

Duties:

The position assists with the appraisal of records; making recommendations for acquiring records; contributing to the physical and intellectual arrangement of records and their description in the Keystone Archives Descriptive Database; and contributing to the development of website resources and digital content.  The incumbent will also contribute to the maintenance of a high level of service through onsite and remote dialogue with the Archives’ clients and participate in public programming activities.
