The Vancouver Maritime Museum has an opening for a student to work as a Collections Assistant this summer.
Full time (35 hrs/wk) Summer student position
Wage: $16/hr + 10% in lieu of benefits
Term: July 24, 2017 to September 1, 2017

The Vancouver Maritime Museum is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to work this summer with the curator and archivist on collections management projects. The successful candidate will develop skills in collections and archives management through practical hands-on experience.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, positive attitude and interest in history. Students should be comfortable working both in teams and individually to complete projects. Applications will be accepted from students enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary institution, but preference will be given to students enrolled in programs related to Museum/Archival studies, education, culture, and history.
Job duties include, but are not limited to, rehousing of photographic collections and artifacts into proper museum storage materials, entering artifact data into the museum’s database, cataloguing, research on artifacts, scanning and digital imaging.

Applicants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, have been a full-time student in the semester preceding the summer, returning to school full time in the fall of 2017, be eligible to work in Canada, and register in the Young Canada Works program at www.youngcanadaworks.ca.
