Columbia University Libraries is now recruiting a Head of Archives Processing. Reporting to the Director, Rare Book & Manuscript Library, the Head of Archives Processing supervises eight permanent archivists. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to fill three of these positions in part thanks to a Provost and faculty mandated campaign to reduce the number of “hidden collections” held by Columbia University Libraries. Moreover, he or she will be asked to help lead the adoption of ArchivesSpace across the Libraries, while also convening the Archives Working Group, which brings together archivists from RBML as well as the Avery, Starr, and Burke libraries at Columbia. Put simply, the Head of Archives Processing will be asked to drive the archival agenda for Columbia and its more than 110,000 linear feet of archival holdings for years to come.
