Conservator – Archivist I

It’s time to make history and help preserve it while you’re at it! Work at the majestic Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre and support the City of Edmonton Archives through developing and maintaining effective archival management of the City’s and citizens’ records. Because of you the citizens of Edmonton, visitors and other guests to the archives will enjoy being able to access and experience historical documents and photographs.

As a City of Edmonton Archivist here is how you will protect History:

•Apply the proper methodology to preserve and process archival material according to archival standards
•Monitor archival storage areas to ensure the stability of records and environmental conditions
•Assist Digital Archivist with the Digital Archives Preservation Program with metadata capture, intake of records, write manuals and procedures for software, and testing/maintenance of the data once taken in
•Maintain online database by supporting data input, correction and administration of access(reproduction) copies
•Maintain the Archive’s website and promote social media presence. Gather and input content, maintain active links, monitor and clean up
•Assist with reference room oversight and revenue generating streams of business
•Promote the Archives’ collection with communication and outreach activities such as exhibits and tours
•Keep information boards updated, assist Archives supervisor with paperwork around incidents and reporting, act as a liaison with corporate representatives for training activities
•Perform related work and special projects as required

Qualifications :

•University degree in Archival Studies, Information Management or a related program with coursework in archival principles, procedures and techniques
•A minimum of 2 years experience with digital records management or digitization project management
•Experience and knowledge of generally accepted standards of practice for archives such as Rules for Archival Description (RAD), conservation, access and other archival procedures
•Knowledge of application legislation including FOIP and Copyright
•Experience and proficiency working with the Microsoft Office Suite and Google Applications
•Willingness to be an active team member, assisting in all aspects of archival work to ensure public awareness and satisfaction with the City’s Archives and services
•Excellent organizational, analytical, interpersonal, verbal, and written skills with focus on attention to detail
•Highly self-motivated with the proven ability to work independently and in a team to effectively prioritize and execute tasks
•Hire is dependent upon a Police Information Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton

Hours of Work: Up to 30 hours per week, Monday-Friday. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Salary: $33.949 – $42.616 (Hourly) – $59,809.650 – $75,078.740 (Annually)
