Project Archivist

The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) is Western Canada’s leading Holocaust teaching museums, engaging 25,000 students and teachers annually.

The VHEC’s mission is to promote human rights, social justice and genocide awareness through education and remembrance of the Holocaust. The VHEC produces thematic exhibitions, school programs, teaching materials and online exhibitions. The Centre maintains a museum collection and archives, Holocaust survivor testimony project, library, rare books and special collections, and resource centre.

Position Overview

The Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre (VHEC) is seeking a Project Archivist on a full-time basis for an engagement of approximately 10 weeks, commencing as soon as possible.

Duties & Responsibilities

Reporting to the Executive Director and liaising with the senior Project Archivist and Registrar, the Project Archivist will process records relating to the VHEC’s past exhibitions and accompanying pedagogical activities.

Drawing on best practices and knowledge of international archival descriptive standards, the Project Archivist will undertake the processing of an existing backlog of materials.

The project includes the following activities:

. Background research;

. Appraisal;

. Physical processing;

. Arrangement and Description;

. Finding aid production;

. Creating catalogue records in VHEC collections management system;

. Additional collections-related duties as required.

Qualifications & Experience

The successful candidate will have a graduate degree in the field of archival studies, knowledge of the principles, practices and values of collections management. This position requires strong analytical skills and the candidate should be detail oriented, well organized and have a demonstrated ability to work independently and to deliverable-based deadlines.
