UBC’s Music, Art and Architecture Library is seeking 2 Student Librarians to provide reference services at the multiservice desk in the I. K. Barber Learning Centre and work on assorted projects as time permits. The salary for these positions is $20.60 per hour plus 4% vacation pay.
These positions will run for the 2018-2019 academic year, starting September 4, 2018 and continuing into April 2019. Each Student Librarian will work 9 hours per week, with hours scheduled weekdays between 11am and 5pm. The successful applicants must be available for training August 27 – 30, 2018.
- Provide basic through intermediate reference services (in person, phone & email) in music, art history and visual art, architecture, landscape architecture and community & regional planning using the Library’s resources (i.e. Summon, Library catalogue, indexes & databases, ejournal collections, reference collections, research guides etc.)
- Provide basic reference services (in person and by phone) to facilitate access to materials in ASRS storage.
- Assist subject librarians with collection development projects, instructional materials (both electronic and print), special collection processing, and other projects as time permits.
Applicants must currently be enrolled in and have completed at least one term of the MLIS program. Applicants must be familiar with the UBC Library system and its online resources. Preference will be given to those who have library, public service or teaching experience; an academic background in music, art, architecture, landscape architecture or community & regional planning is helpful but not essential. Excellent oral and written communication skills, initiative and ability to work independently are required. Reliability and flexibility in covering shifts is essential.
