Forestry in BC – graduate course for new students or international visitors

Forestry 547 “Forestry in British Columbia”

Participants in this course gain an increased knowledge that enables them to make informed comment on the issues facing forestry in BC today.

The course delivery includes a combination of lectures, field trips (Vancouver Island, MKRF and the BC interior), assigned readings and participant presentations. This combination of methods helps participants develop an understanding of the forests of the province, their management, the multiple pressures being imposed on them by natural and human-caused disturbance, and the many different perspectives, paradigms and beliefs about how they should be managed and for what balance of values.

A draft course outline is attached; questions from faculty and students are welcome: Sue.Watts@ubc.ca
