GSS Opportunities

Academic Writing Week is coming up fast at G & PS, and the GSS would like to invite you to get involved! Aside from participants, we’re looking for volunteers to help facilitate discussion, perform registration, generally organize or even present! (It will be good experience for your resume) Our vpexternal@gss.ubc.ca is looking forward to hearing from you. The week itself covers lots of interesting topics you may be dealing with in your own academic writing, including just having a peer group to motivate you to “get it done.” Check out the schedule here.

– UBC Let’s Talk Science is looking for an enthusiastic graduate student to join their coordinating team! Read about the responsibilities of this work-learn position, and apply by June 9th!

GSS Research & Conferences

The GSS and the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies is carrying out a qualitative study of graduate students’ perceptions of mentoring. We will be exploring graduate students’ perspectives on mentoring to inform and improve mentoring as an integral part of teaching and learning at UBC. We’d now like to invite you to participate in this study and share your experiences and perspective with us. Please review the official invitation letter and consent form then sign up to do your bit in helping us improve  the graduate student mentorship experience at UBC.

– The GSS is proud to host the Alliance of B.C. Students’ AGM on May 31st – June 1st here at UBC Vancouver. The ABCS is the largest BC student advocacy body representing over 140,000 students at seven post-secondary institutions. If you’d like to get involved, please email us at info@gss.ubc.ca.

– As a graduate student at UBC what has been your experience with the Positive Space Campaign? The campaign was launched in 2002 with the goal of making UBC more receptive to and welcoming of its lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, trans*, two-spirit and intersex (LGBQT*TI⁺) communities. This year the Equity & Inclusion office staff, together with other stakeholders are reviewing the program, and invite you to share your experience with it by participating in this 15-20minute survey by June 8th. Thank you for sharing your time.

That’s it from me, have a sunny rest of the week!
