Grad Student Positions in Public Health (U of Calgary)

Graduate Student Positions in Epidemiology, Microbiology and Public Health of Untreated Rural Well Water, through the Department of Ecosystem and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine,  University of Calgary, Calgary, Alberta, Canada

Project: This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an important ground breaking project.  We are seeking three graduate students with an interest in interdisciplinary study in environmental public health, microbiology, epidemiology, animal health and decision science. We are guided by the One Health philosophy that management of the interaction of animals, humans, and the environment in which they live is critical to developing participatory solutions to sustainable management of our resources, including water. Positions start January 2015 in the Department of Ecosystem and Public Health at the University of Calgary. The Principal Investigators are Drs. Sylvia Checkley and David Hall (Department of Ecosystem and Public Health, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine) and Dr. Marie Louie (Department of Microbiology, Immunology and Infectious Diseases, Faculty of Medicine) working in collaboration with researchers from the provincial and federal Government through the FoodNet Canada Sentinel Site (  A stipend of $20,000 per year Canadian will be available with potential for more funding through scholarships.

Qualifications: We seek self-motivated, industrious students to begin Master’s graduate programs starting January 2015. The applicants should have a BSc. Demonstrated interest and experience in a related field is essential, as is the ability to work cooperatively with an interdisciplinary team. A DVM degree may be an asset but is not required.

Start date: January 1, 2015
