Earlier this week, a new Canadian institute was created to ‘help developing countries benefit from their mining resources in environmentally and socially responsible ways’.  Named as the Canadian International Institute for Extractive Industries and Development (CIIEID), it is ‘a coalition between the University of British Columbia, Simon Fraser University, and École Polytechnique de Montréal (EPM)’. Access recent and/or historical mining engineering research reports, symposium proceedings, theses and dissertations in the Mining Engineering community at: https://circle.ubc.ca/handle/2429/6926.

Did You Know?

Organized by UBC’s Norman B. Keevil Institute of Mining Engineering in conjunction with Colorado State University and the University of Alberta, the Tailings and Mine Waste 2011 (TMW) conference was held in Vancouver, BC. Here’s a memorable quote about archiving the TMW proceedings in cIRcle: “We are setting a new standard for open source materials of a very important conference series. The help and support from cIRcle to make this real is highly appreciated.” –Dirk van Zyl, Professor, Department of Mining Engineering
