The UBC Library DOES NOT subscribe to Harvard Business Review.

We have limited access through a subscription to EBSCOhost journal aggregator database “Business Source Complete.”

UPDATE : As an alternative to the “browse” method below, if you have followed a PURL into the EBSCOhost database, you can also re-do your search within the EBSCOhost Database to get to the PDF version of the HBR article.

What does this mean? It means that articles 1) cannot be Printed, 2) cannot be saved & 3) that permanent URLs (PURLs) will not work to give you the PDF. If you need to access an article from HBR, please browse for it by starting at the journal title level (it can be found using the eJournal Portal – the “Journal Titles” tab on the Library Homepage) and then going to the year, Volume, Issue and finally page for the article.

This is out of the Library’s hands as it is part of an agreement between Harvard & EBSCOhost.

UPDATE : Issue has been temporarily resolved. IF you had problems in the past, please clear history (cache & cookies) from your browser and try to set up a folder now. Contact us if problems persist via our Help Form.

Due to technical difficulties that EBSCOhost is aware of (and working on), patrons cannot create an EBSCOhost personal folder while off campus and using EZproxy. To create a folder, patrons must be on campus using a Library computer, UBCSecure Wireless or other computer with a recognized UBC IP address. You can tell if you are at a recognized IP because the UBC crest will appear on the left side of the screen (EZproxy, as mentioned, is the exception. The crest is there, but you cannot create a folder).

After you create a folder on campus, you can log into it when you access a UBC Library subscribed EBSCOhost database off campus via EZproxy.

We will update this post as EBSCOhost works on this problem.

New search linking from EBSCOhost to the UBC Catalogue for Journals

When searching in EBSCOhost Databases, you will now see a new link next to Journal / Article results that has a “rainbow” book case:

This link will search for the journal ISSN in the UBC Catalogue so that you can see what Print holdings (as well as Online) the Library has. This will be particularly helpful for articles with poor or no images (when we have the Print) or for locating Archives of a journal (Print or Online) that go back farther than the EBSCOhost full text holdings.

**ACCESS RESTORED**

We have lost access to the EBSCOhost database “Education Research Complete.”

…but we are working on it! Stay tuned.

Two trials for Medical resources are underway right now.

*UPDATE* Databases are back!!*

Per EBSCO:

Due to routine maintenance currently underway, we are experiencing temporary service interruptions for EBSCOhost… We apologize for this inconvenience and assure you that our engineering team is working on this top priority to restore service as soon as possible.

Stay tuned.

EBSCO has taken over the H.W. Wilson databases. These are primarily Education, Humanities, Social Science, Fine Art, Architecture and Law focused Index & Abstract databases –some with Full Text. As a result, the following Resource pages now point to EBSCOhost sites rather than H.W. Wilson sites:

Education Full Text

Education Index Retrospective: 1929-1983
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/1119

Index to Legal Periodicals and Books
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/137

Index to Legal Periodicals Retrospective: 1908-1981
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/889

Library Literature & Information Science Full Text
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/659

Humanities & Social Sciences Index Retrospective: 1907-1984
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/979

Readers’ Guide Retrospective: 1890-1982
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/978

Art Index Retrospective
http://resources.library.ubc.ca/442

Art Full Text

Summon, the Citation Linker and the Catalogue will catch up to these changes over the next few days.

Just a heads up. There are some title URLs and coverage problems with various EBSCOhost databases. Per our good friends at Serials Solutions…

We are having data inconsistency issues… and are working to obtain the correct dates and URLs for every title.

So, keep emailing us if you run into problems, but be prepared for a bumpy ride.
