January 31st, 2019 by madgett | Comments Off on eJournal portal and Citation Linker will be unavailable for 24 hours starting February 8 at 5:00 p.m.

UPDATE – move went well with few problems reported!
Due to a migration to new servers by our third-party eResources Discovery provider, the eJournal Portal (our ejournal linking from the “Journal Titles” tab on the Library Homepage) and our Citation Linker (also known as UBC eLink – the page with a big blue button that links citations to full text) will be offline for 24 hours starting at 5:00 p.m. PST on Friday, February 8th.
Summon and the Catalogue will be partially affected. Only links that go directly to articles, journals, books, videos, etc. will work during this time.
Users can also use direct article links on Google Scholar during this time, but not UBC eLink.
Much more technical info HERE.
For additional assistance, please contact your nearest library branch, or report any problems via the Help Form.

September 8th, 2017 by madgett | Comments Off on Slowness in the eJournal Portal (“Journal Titles” tab)
There continues to be intermittent issues with the eJournal Portal (the tab that says “Journal Titles” on the Library Homepage).
Per the third-party that hosts this service:
—
“Thanks for the reports of slowness related to the E-journal Portal. We are aware of the issue… this issue is happening intermittently and is not impacting all customers which has made it difficult to diagnose and definitively address. For those impacted, we understand this is frustrating and apologize for the inconvenience this is causing you and your users. We also understand the timing is not great as many of you are starting new school years.”
“[W]e have a series of fixes going out in the next 1-5 weeks that we believe will significantly reduce the instances of slowness (if not fix this issue altogether).”
—
As a temporary work-around, you can search for a journal title in the Catalogue from here.
…selecting “Journal title begins with” from the dropdown menu, BUT this will only search for journals (electronic and Print) that have a record in the Catalogue.
As always, report any problems – and direct Patrons to do the same – with online resources via our Help Form.

*UPDATE* Slowness issues resolved. If you have further problems, please contact us using our Help Form:
There have been several reports about the eJournal Portal (“Journal Titles” on the Homepage, “Journals” under Search Collections) being very slow. We have reported this to Ex Libris/ProQuest, and they are working on it.
Stay Tuned!

August 16th, 2011 by Lorne Madgett | Comments Off on The New “Search Collections” Portal: Where’s the ejournals?
If you are wondering where the ejournals are in the Search Collections Portal, it’s pretty simple.
Print and ejournals are under “Journals“. The search box on the left searches the UBC Catalogue for Print and ejournal titles. The search box on the right searches searches the Serials Solutions knowledgebase for ejournal only.
And what if you have a DOI or PMID number for an article? You can search those under “Indexes, Databases & Articles“, bottom right search box.

June 2nd, 2011 by Lorne Madgett | Comments Off on ejournal Portal Changes: “Online Only” Option now Available
**UPDATE** Some people are not seeing the changes. Clear the Cache & Cookies from your Browser(s). This should correct the problem.
The ejournal Portal (our ejournal A-Z list) has changed.
Starting Friday, June 2nd, there will be an “Online Only” option. This will return hypertext links leading directly to ejournals.
To search for Print journals and ejournals (not to mention microforms of journals), use the “Print and Online” option. This will search our Catalogue and allow you to see which print issues we have. Records that say [electronic resource] will also take you to ejournals via the orange “Online Access” button.
So, if looking for journals:
- go to the ejournal Portal
- select the option you want
- enter the journal title
- …and Search!
