RESOLVED!

We have solved the problem with Passport. Please do the following:

1) clear all history (cache & cookies) from your browser (or if you know what you are doing, clear only the history/cookies related to Passport)

2) go to the Resource page & click on Connect to Resource and log into UBC’s EZproxy as usual.

==============

Passport GMID is leading from the CWL log-in screen to it’s own log-in page rather than into the resources.

We are looking into the problem.

Stay tuned.

WileyDue to the heavy traffic Wiley Online is experiencing from our off-campus server (EZproxy), they are occasionally blocking the IP address.

If you see an error like this on the Wiley site:

Access from your IP address has been blocked. Please contact your librarian for assistance.

Please try the following:

  • Make sure that you are NOT logged into MyVPN
  • Clear the history (cache & cookies) from your browser
  • Wait 10 – 15 minutes then try the link to the item on Wiley again.

If access problems continue, please report them to us via our Help Form with a screenshot, if possible, of the error message.

UPDATE: Off-Campus Access has been restored as of Sunday, Feb.9, 7:00PM (PST) .
Please clear your cache and cookies.
If problems persist, contact us via our Help Form.

ScienceDirect => Off-Campus Access Blocked

EZproxy (off-campus access, where you log in with your CWL) has been blocked by ScienceDirect. We are working to get the block lifted for the weekend.  Stay Tuned!

Possible Off-Campus Access Interruptions November 21st

On November 21st, around 10:00 p.m. PST, the Off-Campus EZproxy Authentication system will be offline for about 10-15 minutes. This means Users authenticating from off campus to Library resources may lose access unexpectedly for a short period.

If you can’t log in to a resource or suddenly lose access to a resource, please try again after a few minutes.

If problems persist, contact us via our Help Form, and we will investigate.

Possible Off-Campus Access Interruptions Saturday

On Saturday, November 9th, from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., the CWL Authentication system will be undergoing testing. This mean Users authenticating from off campus may lose access unexpectedly for short periods.
If you can’t log in to a resource or suddenly lose access to a resource, please try again after a few minutes.

If problems persist, contact us via our Help Form, and we will investigate on Monday.

Off-campus access to ScienceDirect (Elsevier) ejournals & ebooks has been restored via EZproxy.

Taylor & Francis ebooks:

UPDATE: PROBLEM RESOLVED.

Please clear the history (cache & cookies) from your browser if you had a recent problem with Taylor & Francis ebooks.

Off-Campus access via EZproxy is down. We are working on it. Stay Tuned!

Using Google Scholar with EZproxy (the UBC Library off-campus authentication method) can be tricky. You need to set up a Google Scholar session BEFORE logging into EZproxy.

Our Google Scholar resource page (with instructions) is HERE (Google Scholar).

Basically, the steps are:

  • Go to Google Scholar and log in, if you have a Gmail account. However, an account is not necessary.
  • Under the upper left “hamburger menu” (three horizontal bars), click on “Settings
  • Click on “Library Links” and search for  UBC Library  (if you have a Gmail account, Google might remember your settings)
  • Tick the boxes and SAVE
  • Do your search. When the results come up, you will see  UBC eLink  to the right. Click on that for the result you are interested in
  • This will take you to our Citation Linker page. Click on the blue button for Full Text and at that point you will be asked to log into EZproxy

If you run into any problems, please contact us via our Help Form including any error messages or screenshots that might be helpful.

REMEMBER: Google Scholar does not index (capture) all the resources available from UBC Library. Please use our discovery tool Summon (also from the General tab on the Library Homepage) –and– contact a Subject Librarian to make sure you are finding all available resources.

UPDATE : Issue has been temporarily resolved. IF you had problems in the past, please clear history (cache & cookies) from your browser and try to set up a folder now. Contact us if problems persist via our Help Form.

Due to technical difficulties that EBSCOhost is aware of (and working on), patrons cannot create an EBSCOhost personal folder while off campus and using EZproxy. To create a folder, patrons must be on campus using a Library computer, UBCSecure Wireless or other computer with a recognized UBC IP address. You can tell if you are at a recognized IP because the UBC crest will appear on the left side of the screen (EZproxy, as mentioned, is the exception. The crest is there, but you cannot create a folder).

After you create a folder on campus, you can log into it when you access a UBC Library subscribed EBSCOhost database off campus via EZproxy.

We will update this post as EBSCOhost works on this problem.

Library users will be unable to log in to EZproxy between 5:00 p.m. and 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13 due to a system upgrade.  If any issues arise following the upgrade, please contact us.

Thank you for your patience.

Update: Ezproxy upgrade successfully completed.
