The Music Library will be relocating as of June 21. From June 24 – 26, music collections and services will relocate to the Library at the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. 

The current location in the Music Building will be closed with limited retrievals and seminar room access available 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. while the move is underway. We regret any temporary service disruptions.

We look forward to seeing you in the new Library in the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre:

  • Music collections on levels 3 – 4
  • Listening stations, multimedia rooms on level 3 (opening September 2013). Temporary listening facilities will be available during the summer.
  • Music reference staff offices on level 4, room 414. Our telephone and email contacts remain unchanged. Staff will be accessible after June 24.

Koerner Library, Education Library and David Lam Library will be closed on Saturday, June 8, with normal hours resuming on June 9.

The closure is due to maintenance work from UBC Building Operations which includes a series of buildings on campus. Koerner Library, the Neville Scarfe Building and the Henry Angus Building will be affected by the electrical maintenance. The work will be done on a primary power switch gear, requiring a full electrical shutdown for the group of buildings.

Woodward Library will be closed on Saturday May 4. The Library will resume normal hours on Sunday, May 5. 

The closure is due to maintenance work from UBC Building Operations which includes a series of buildings on campus. Woodward Library, the Instructional Resources Centre, the Cunningham and Wesbrook buildings, and the School of Population and Public Health will all be affected by the electrical maintenance. A high voltage feeder being repaired requires a full electrical shutdown for the group of buildings. Building Operations expects the shutdown to last from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, May 4.

Family Day hours slide for UBC Library

Please note that all UBC Library branches on the Vancouver campus will be closed for the upcoming Family Day holiday on Monday, February 11. The Library at the Okanagan campus will remain open 9 a.m. to midnight.

The open study areas of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre will be open for regular hours (6 a.m. to 1 a.m.); please note that this DOES NOT include level one, the Chapman Learning Commons, Library bookstacks or Ike’s Cafe. All of those spaces will be closed.

Students studying at the Barber Centre

The Irving K. Barber Learning Centre will be open 24 hours a day from Sunday, December 2 to Tuesday, December 18 to accommodate students during the fall exam season.

Please note that this opening DOES NOT include: level one, the Chapman Learning Commons, Library bookstacks or Ike’s Cafe. During the 24/7 opening period, regular cleaning of study spaces will continue. The computer workstations on level two will remain open.

If you are planning to stay overnight at UBC or have an early exam, check out the UBC Commuter Student Hostel, where you can book accommodation online.

Rare Books and Special Collections service desk

Beginning next week, UBC Library’s Rare Books and Special Collections (RBSC) and University Archives will have reduced hours.

Effective July 30 to August 31, RBSC and University Archives, on the first floor of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre (IKBLC), will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday to Friday. This includes the Chung Collection exhibition, the special collections reading room (Rm 110) and seminar room (Rm 112), as well as the University Archives (Rm 118).

Notice to Users

The Irving K. Barber Learning Centre will be closed Saturday, May 5 for electrical upgrades. 

No one will be allowed in the building except for authorized personnel. Trying to study? Visit the Library hours and locations portal to find other branches open on May 5.

Electrical upgrades on the east side of campus will affect the Student Union Building, Gage Residences, the North Parkade, the Law Library, Brock Hall and the Buchanan buildings. For more information on building closures visit buildingoperations.ubc.ca

The Learning Centre will re-open at 6 a.m. on Sunday, May 6.

Please note that from December 24-31, most UBC Library branches and units will be closed for the holidays.

In Vancouver, the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre will be open on December 24 from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.; closed on December 25 and 26; and open again from December 27-31, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Please note that this opening DOES NOT include: level one, the Chapman Learning Commons, UBC Library bookstacks, Ike’s Cafe or access to computer workstations.

Meanwhile, the Biomedical Branch Library will be closed December 24-27; open December 28 and 29 from noon to 5 p.m.; and closed on December 30 and 31. During its opening, a health librarian and student health librarian will be available; appointments for users conducting research can be made by contacting dean.giustini@ubc.ca.

Lastly, the Library at UBC’s Okanagan campus will be closed from December 24-27, and open from December 28-31.
