Due to current conditions with COVID-19, UBC Library is making changes to its operating hours, lending practices and fines policies.

UBC.ca continues to be the most up-to-date and authoritative source of information about the University’s response to COVID-19. The Public Health Agency of Canada continues to assess the public health risk associated with the virus. However, it is important to state that UBC does not currently have any confirmed cases amongst is faculty, staff and student community.

Some library services are available during this time but will be evolving as the situation develops. We will update this page as additional information becomes available.

The library is focused on the following priorities:

• Continuing to provide access to e-resources
• Continuing to provide access to the online catalog
• Maintaining the library’s website
• Continuing to provide access to course reserves through Canvas
• Supporting UBC faculty, staff and students in remote teaching and learning

Operating Hours
As of Monday, March 16, Library locations on the Vancouver campus will reduce operating hours from 9 am-5 pm, Monday-Friday.

The Irving K. Barber Learning Centre is open from 9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday, until further notice.

The ASRS is currently experiencing service delays in certain areas due to a mechanical issue. Please call the IKBLC circulation desk at (604) 822-8149 before picking up material.

The Education Library will be closed Tuesday, March 17 to Sunday, March 22, 2020.

Rare Books & Special Collections will be closed from Wednesday, March 18, 2020 until further notice.

At UBCO beginning Tuesday, March 17, the Okanagan Campus Library will open from 10 am-6 pm daily (including weekends), Okanagan Special Collections will be open by appointment only and The Innovation Library will be closed until further notice.

We ask those using library spaces to practice social distancing. Some locations are closed due to staff shortages. Please refer to the library’s hours portal for the most up-to-date information about your branch of choice.

Borrowing equipment
Equipment lending is closed to help mitigate risk.

Workshops and events
All in-person workshops and events hosted by the library are cancelled. Event attendees can expect an email notifications through the library’s scheduling system, LibCal.

Due Dates and Library Fines
The library will cancel late fees from March 16 until the situation changes. Please do not come to campus to return or renew library materials unless absolutely necessary.

 

 

 

Rare Books & Special Collections, UBC Archives and the Records Management Office (RMO) will be closed Monday, March 16 and Tuesday, March 17, 2020.

RBSC librarians and archivists will be working remotely and may still be able to assist with reference questions submitted  through the RBSC contact form or by sending an email to rare.books@ubc.ca or to a specific librarian or archivist. Inquiries for University Archives can be sent through the contact form. Our sincere apologies for the inconvenience.

Both the UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan campuses are currently experiencing Pay for Print service issues.  UBC IT is working to resolve this matter.

Update January 15, 2020, 4:45 p.m.: Elevators in UBC Library’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre are temporarily out of service for repairs. 

Visitors to the building with mobility issues are asked to contact Campus Security at 604-822-2222 for assistance getting to upper floors.
