UBC Library’s Summer Update in the BCLA Browser highlights the release of the Senate Report and the Community Report, the inaugural winner of the Basil Stuart-Stubbs Prize for Outstanding Scholarly Book on British Columbia, the launch of the B.C. Aboriginal Audio Digitization and Preservation Program, and more.

A round-up of UBC Library staff presentations given at the recent British Columbia Library Conference in Richmond is provided, and the issue also includes a “Conference Reports” section, which features contributions from various Library staff.

The BCLA Browser is the online, open access publication of the British Columbia Library Association.

The Library’s submission begins on page 22 of the newsletter, which is published on behalf of the Council of Post Secondary Library Directors, British Columbia.

UBC Library and the United Way are proud to present the third annual Spelling Bee. UBC staff are invited to join this cross-campus team competition to raise awareness for the United Way. Assemble your best spellers (4-10 people) to compete for the United Way Cup of Victory. Your team will go head-to-head with others from various departments and units across campus.

If your team has what it takes to be this year’s ultimate UBC spellers, register by November 13. For more information or to see the Hall of Fame, visit the Spelling Bee website.

Word fans and United Way supporters – you’re invited to participate in UBC Library’s second annual Spelling Bee!

Will the victorious English Exoterics, from the Department of English, continue to out-spell this year’s competitors, including their rivals Bee Plus from the School of Journalism?  Who will be this year’s dark horse? Will we see a showdown between VP portfolios? Come participate or watch the action on November 9!

Join us for a cross-campus team competition to raise awareness for the United Way. Assemble your best spellers (up to 10) to compete for the United Way Cup of Victory. Your team will go head-to-head with others from various departments and units across campus.

If your team has what it takes to be the ultimate UBC spellers, RSVP with your list of team members by Friday, Nov. 4, 2011 Oct. 28, 2011 by emailing Harry Young at harry.young@ubc.ca. The suggested team entry fee is $5 per person.

The Spelling Bee takes place from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 9 in the Golden Jubilee Room, located on the top level of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre.
