For the Mac users Write-N-Cite 4 is great. One document. Nice functionality. No synching issues.

For the PC users Write-N-Cite 4 is still working out some issues (~10 minutes to synch Write-N-Cite to your RefWorks account). If you choose to download Write-N-Cite 4, note there will be these delays when you are synching your records.

Alternatives

1) Use a previous version of Write-N-Cite

2) Use the One Line/Cite View in RefWorks

Write-N-Cite 2.5 is currently not compatible with Mac OS X Lion. Until a new version of Write-N-Cite is released, Lion users can select the One-Line/Cite view in RefWorks as a workaround. This tutorial and this video explain the process.

WnC III is compatible with MS Word 2010.

If the application is not working for you, please try the following:

– Word 2010 must be completely installed on the local computer and then the computer must be restarted before Write-n-Cite III can be installed.

– Microsoft now offers a version of Word 2010 called ‘Click to Run’ that installs a virtualization handler to your local computer and then runs the application from the web. Write-n-Cite III is not compatible with this version of Word. The full application must be installed on the local computer for Write-n-Cite III to recognize the installation of MS Word 2010.

If you want to access RefWorks or WriteNCite from on-campus with a laptop you need to use the VPN as well as the wireless connection to successfully log in. The ‘rewriting proxy’ does NOT work for RefWorks or WriteNCite on or off campus.
