The visual sources pulled together here reveal a crucial moment in the history of Canadian global mindedness. The organizers of the Miles for Millions Walkathons mediated the politics and social activism of the 1960s with images and various material culture designed to bridge the gaps between the privileged ‘here’ and the impoverished ‘third world’. Looking back on these images, we can reflect on both the aesthetic changes, and the deeper similarities between our current visual vocabulary of ‘developing’ countries and that of our erstwhile ‘third world’ partners.
