Course Feedback: Too little too late – should it be like that?

This post is created to provide my students with an easy and anonymous way of providing feedback on the ETEC533 class I am currently teaching. I was thinking of how often we rely on course surveys or final course evaluations to find out what our students thought of the courses we taught last term. Too often we think “If I just knew two months earlier about students’ suggestion X, I could have changed it easily and the course would have been improved”. I decided that there is no point for me of waiting for this kind of feedback – too often it is too little too late. So to make sure my students do not feel uncomfortable, I decided to create safe space where the feedback can be left as an anonymous comment. We of course have a special folder four suggestions on the course web site (on Vista), yet there the feedback is not anonymous.

So let us wait and see if this was a useful idea. I am looking for any kind of useful constructive feedback.

I don?t know how you manage it all. It isn?t easy to keep going; you have to keep on your toes. But you always suggest something interesting to do and new challenges to take on, you share amazing materials. I enjoy reading. You may also take for granted that the audience of “IDEAS” is more than 400,001 listeners now.

I have a suggestion. Is it possible to give us a one-week extension on the due date for the Framing paper and the Meritorious posting? You may think that I am trying to slack off a bit, but the timeline (due to the Olympics?) for this semester is making the course very intensive by the end of Week 6 before the Olympics. I believe that being able to have more time to reflect on what we have learned is as important as in submitting assignments on time. But afterall, I would rather submit an “A” paper than a “B” paper.

Thanks for your suggestion. Let me think about it and I will make a posting on the course web site during this week to let you know if this can be done. I think one extra week of the reading break might make it a reasonable request (I have to ask the MET program if this is acceptable).

    Regards, Dr. M.
