My undergrad courses

COMM 101 Business Fundamentals. A new first year course: piloted Q1 2010. Outline. Paul has led the design of this course and is co-leading the pilot delivery with Jeff Kroeker: yes, marketing and accounting playing nicely together! This is rolling out as a first term course for ALL first years in Sept 2010. This is NOT business education as usual – expect to be engaged and challenged!

COMM 462 Integrated Marketing Communications

Some think of this as an “advertising course” but it is really the link between brand positioning and communication. It deals with campaign ideas, and is media netural.  It is a very applied course where you will role play as both client and agency in your assignments, often working for real clients. Develop a portfolio and tools that can help you be more attractive to employers!

Many students take both 462 and 464. For marketing majors that want to work as marketing professionals this is highly recommended. The courses can be taken separately, but there is a clear connection in the skill sets that are developed.

COMM 464 eMarketing

This course continues to evolve as the detail of the subject content changes. However, it is based in some fundamental principles that connect to the marketing knowledge that you have already acquired. Currently, student assignments include designing, implementing and evaluating an Adwords’ campaign for a live client, creating a running a marketing blog, and designing an improved online marketing plan (including social media) for a live client. These assignments provide portfolio content to greatly enhance your employability.

New Venture Design (co-delivered with Engineering – Paul co-teaches the commerce elements with Darren Dahl, one of the course founders.) This course has limited enrollment, and is by application and interview only. Applications start in March for the following Sept. The course is a 2-term course for 4th year students. Within Sauder, all disciplines are encouraged to apply – this is not just for marketing majors.
