Whachu know ’bout First Year?

July 18th, 2013 · 2 Comments

Inspired by Thea’s post and Samantha’s post, here are some things I learned in my first year at UBC…

  • Trust me, making friends is waaaaaay easier than you expect. Everyone is just as eager to talk about where they’re from and what faculty they’re in. Don’t be shy and go introduce yourself!
  • You’ll meet TONS of people in your first week at UBC. And you’ll probably never speak to half of them again. And that’s okay.
  • FOOLPROOF, 100% MONEY BACK GUARENTEE way to make friends on rez? (more…)

The Spectrum of Stress

November 6th, 2012 · 2 Comments

It’s the middle of UBC’s second round of midterms and stress is taking its toll on everyone. People are locking themselves in their rooms, binge eating, crying or all three. Everyone relieves stress in their own way, but here are some of the more common ones I’ve noticed around rez: (more…)

Another reason why I love UBC

So I walk into Chemistry, sit down, and this is what I see…

Distraction Attractions

Is it just me, or does it seem like everyone is behind on their work? Rez life, friends, even the weather all just gets in the way of your motivation and leaves you with a whole lot of work due very, very soon. And instead of showing you ways to stop procrastinating and get productive (because I still haven’t quite figured out how to do that yet…) I’ve decided to show you some of the great ways to waste your time and make you wallow in self-pity a couple of hours later!

This site has skyrocketed to popularity and is a guaranteed time waster for all UBC students. The perfect GIFs matched with the 100% relatable problems we as UBC students face everyday make this site one of my absolute favourites. Be warned, once you start reading, stopping will be near impossible!

9gag is just an assortment of the most random pictures and memes that will have you rolling on the ground laughing and/or staying up till 3am wondering how you’re going to wake up for your 9am class. 9gag is updated quite regularly so I’d be lying if I said I don’t check it multiple times a day (and in my math class…)

And probably the most famous time waster of all, YOUTUBE! I cannot tell you how many hours I’ve wasted watching cat videos and people face planting. Some Youtubers I love: ItsKingsleyBitch, CommunityChannel, SourceFed, JennaMarbles and the list goes on and on.

So these three sites are probably the reason why I’ll fail all my courses. Time to lock myself in a room without internet and try and get some studying done. Ciao for now!

I feel as if a huge weight has been lifted from my shoulders. After hours of studying and a few mental breakdowns here and there, I’m done my midterms! Within the last two weeks I had an hour long math midterm worth 17.5% (YES. SEVENTEEN POINT FREAKING FIVE PERCENT!), an hour long chemistry midterm and a biology midterm. I’m just so relieved that I’m done and can finally relax…. until the end of October where I have the second half of my midterms -_-

But since I’m in such a good mood I thought I’d give all you prospective science students a brief insight into what to expect for your midterms! (more…)

My bad!

October 10th, 2012 · No Comments

Sorry for the lack of posts! I’ve been in complete withdrawal trying to focus on doing well on my midterms. Good news? I feel like I did pretty well. Bad news? I’m running on 5 hours of sleep and a whole lot of caffeine. I’ll be sure to make a regular post within the next couple of days.

I can’t fight this feeling any longer

September 20th, 2012 · 2 Comments

It’s finally here. The moment I’ve been dreading for so long. The moment that I thought would never catch up to me.

I have homework to do.

Well, to be more specific, I’ve finally gotten around to doing the homework that has slowly been piling up. Dry labs, math quizzes, online assignments, pre-readings, the list goes on and on.

I feel like that’s something I’ve experienced over and over again in high school, but moving to a completely new city and making so many new friends has been pretty overwhelming. I feel like I’ve pushed aside the main reason I came to UBC: to study.

Despite all the fun activities going on around me I need to make time for my school work. I guess that includes finishing this blog post and actually reading my biology textbook….

Bring it on
