Whachu know ’bout First Year?

July 18th, 2013 · 2 Comments

Inspired by Thea’s post and Samantha’s post, here are some things I learned in my first year at UBC…

  • Trust me, making friends is waaaaaay easier than you expect. Everyone is just as eager to talk about where they’re from and what faculty they’re in. Don’t be shy and go introduce yourself!
  • You’ll meet TONS of people in your first week at UBC. And you’ll probably never speak to half of them again. And that’s okay.
  • FOOLPROOF, 100% MONEY BACK GUARENTEE way to make friends on rez? (more…)

Big news

April 10th, 2013 · 2 Comments

So as I alluded in my last post, I have some big things planned for my second year at UBC. Starting in mid-December, applications for becoming an RA opened up. For those of you who don’t know, an RA (or Resident Advisor) is an upper-year student who would be living in either Totem Park or Place Vanier along with first-years and pretty much making sure everyone is enjoying their first-year experience. They’re in charge of events, clubs and on smaller scale making sure the residents on their floor/in their house are having a good time/not burning the place down.

Initially when I heard about the application I was hesitant to apply. (more…)

TBDC (Ya know, like ABDC?) No? Alright then.

Hi. My name is Paul Lee, and welcome ……to TOTEM’S BEST DANCE CREW. Cue dramatic music and theme song

This past week I was asked by a Totem Park club called Rec&Rez to MC one of their events called Totem’s Best Dance Crew. It definitely came as a surprise to me that my name came up at their meetings but I was beyond excited to be considered. I told them I’d love to and was given a script and meeting times for dress rehearsal. (more…)

The Storm is Here

March 29th, 2013 · No Comments

Every year, UBC holds one of the campus’ largest intermural events called Storm the Wall. And trust me, if you are (or will be) a UBC student you WILL hear about Storm. For those of you who don’t know, Storm is a huge race that consists of a swimming portion, sprinting portion, cycling portion, running portion and finishes off with trying to get your/your team up a 12ft wall!

Pretty much The Flash

GTs at the SLC

January 14th, 2013 · 1 Comment

Disclaimer: GT= Good Time. Don’t listen to the lies Urban Dictionary tells you and think I’m referring to the capital of Guyana.

Surprise surprise, the Student Leadership Conference was ONE HELL OF AN AWESOME TIME. The people were all super friendly, the speakers were smart and informative (the sibling duo of Matt and Stephanie Corker was almost too adorable to handle. Seriously, I didn’t actually believe siblings could get along that well, like, ever) and the opening and closing keynote speakers were some of the most inspirational people I have ever had the privilege of hearing speak. I CAN’T EVEN

January 8th, 2013 · 1 Comment

CAN WE ALL TAKE A MOMENT TO APPRECIATE THE FACT THAT I’M GOING TO SEE FRANK WARREN THIS SATURDAY AT UBC’S SLC.

No big deal, but I’m kind of freaking out right now. For those of you who don’t know, Frank Warren is the founder of PostSecret, an art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on postcards. He updates this site every Sunday and it’s definitely worth checking out.

Let the countdown begin.

UBC’s Student Leadership Conference

November 29th, 2012 · 1 Comment

Registration for UBC’s Student Leadership Conference has opened up and I could not be more excited. Reading about all the amazingly qualified presenters I get to choose to listen to and the workshops I get to attend has actually got me excited for January to come!

For those of you who don’t know, the UBC hosts the SLC every year. From what I’ve heard (from quite literally everyone I’ve talked to) it’s an amazing time and a must-attend. (more…)

Back from the dark abyss

November 18th, 2012 · 2 Comments

Hello world. I’ve finally found some time to crawl my way out of the dark hole known as studying for midterms and start blogging about my life. Although technically I’m still in a dark hole because I’m currently typing in my room with the lights off (I swear I’ll elaborate in a minute. I have friends. I swear.) Midterms went surprisingly well for me, even though my marks were a huge drop from what I’m used to seeing in high school. Like, almost a 15% drop. But apparently, according to everyone, that’s to be expected. Crazy.

Anyways, let’s not talk about such depressing things. Instead, I’m going to talk about this crazy event that’s been sweeping Totem Park. It’s called… (more…)
