I enjoy teaching at all levels and in a number of fields, but especially in Renaissance poetry. My teaching style is conservative: I prefer to lecture, although I’m always happy to hear what students have to say; I keep the use of the computer to an absolute minimum; and I never assign group work, as I resented it deeply when I was a student.

Here’s my teaching for the academic year beginning in September 2019: Term One is ENGL 110 (Approaches to Literature) and ENGL 200 (Principles of Literary Studies); Term Two is ENGL 350 (Milton and the Seventeenth Century) and ENGL 520 (a graduate course on 17th-Century Lyric featuring John Donne, Andrew Marvell, and Katherine Philips).
