Lloyd, J., Li L. & Hertzman, C. Early experiences matter: Lasting effect of concentrated disadvantage on children’s language and cognitive outcomes. Health & Place. Volume 16, Issue 2, p. 371-380 (March 2010).

From now until November 15, UBC Library users have access to a trial of more than 800 recent electronic titles in the humanities and social sciences from the Dutch publisher, Brill. While only 78 titles have been assigned to the “social science” category, my keyword search for “urban” pulled up titles from throughout the collection.
Please have a look and let us know whether you think this collection would be a valuable addition to UBC Library.

The new edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association continues to draw comment from its users – some of whom are sociologists. It has become newsworthy: Inside HigerEd ran a story last week, Correcting a Style Guide. Comments to the story include a link to a petition that demands that the APA replace all copies of the first printing, at no charge.
At Koerner Library, we’ve added pockets to the front of our copies and placed printouts of the corrections in them. We’ve asked our book supplier to obtain replacement copies from the second printing for from APA, without UBC Library having to pay any additional charges.
