1. RIC working group – Research and Resources

Purpose: Investigate emerging technologies and recommend implementation
where and when appropriate.

Examples of activities:
IM and virtual reference; Blogs; Clickers; Podcasting; WebCT, online and
distance learning tools

Members of working group:
Elim Wong (RIC, Law Library)
Terry Horner (RIC, Music Library)
Sarbjit Rendhawa (Asian Library)
Lindsay Ure (IKBLC)

Aleteia Greenwood (RIC, Science & Engineering, will attend meetings when
she is able)

Reporting dates:

▪ November 20, 2007
▪ February 19, 2008

2. RIC working group – Leadership (#2 and #5 from RIC Prioritizing report)

Purpose: RIC will facilitate dialogue on Reference and Instruction issues. Assess reference and instruction activities being offered by UBC Library staff and identify possibilities for coordination resulting in increased effectiveness. Recognize the contributions of library staff at all levels.

Examples of activities:
Arrange library-wide forums to discuss reference and instruction issues
and best practices. Forum topics could include the role of UBC Library
in TREK 2010, website and subject guide redevelopment, best practices, etc.

At yesterday’s RIC meeting, we discussed the report on Prioritizing the RIC mandate. At the meeting, we began the process of forming 2 working groups (4 members per group – 2 from RIC, 2 from within the library) for the following top 2 roles/priorities. :
