I think stats are relevant in most majors, and in life in general. If people see a pattern, they tend to extrapolate things from it that often aren't real. Stats can help people understand how reliable various observations are.

Many major programs where stats are relevant, have mandatory stats courses. Ex: POLI 380.
I took Math 12 >_>

I think science literacy courses are important, yes, but also math and stats courses, at least.

I took easy ones because making the most out of my education means having the time and energy to actually focus on the classes I care about and am here for...I quite like science, but I don't feel it belongs in a BA (especially these days when we surely must re-evaluate the degree of a BA) in the same way as English courses belong in a BS. The only science courses I can think of that possibly should be mandatory are science literacy ones...

On your last paragraph, I don't think they should get rid of them, but I do think that they need to tweak how they go about them. As it stands, students choose to take courses that will be easy and that they won't necessarily learn anything from. I think this defeats the purpose (but it doesn't seem a lot of students really care about making the most of their education, so it's not really all that surprising, eh?).

Hey! I'd love your vote and if you have any questions for me to help convince you, I'd love to hear them so shoot me an email. =)
