Marketing is often thought of as the smoke and mirrors used by businesses to leverage the most money possible out of the buying public. But, at UBC’s Sauder School of Business, professors often look at this relationship from the consumers’ perspective to understand marketing’s effects and possible abuses. The research presented in this forum seeks to demystify marketing practices to empower consumers.

The FT MBA Period 1 Exam Schedule has been updated. BAIT 513 Presentations on Feb 8th will be held in HA 492. BAEN 506 Class on Feb 8th will be held in SWING 121/122.
Please note that while in previous years BASM 504 – Intellectual Property and Business Strategy has been offered in in the FT Program in Period 6. In 2011, due to instructor availability, the module will be offered in the FT Program in Period 3 only. An updated schedule can be found on Vista in the Post-Core Modules folder.
BASM 504 002 is available for registration via the SSC for any student interested.

UITLO Start-Up Services Voucher
The pilot scheme for the UILO Start-up Services Voucher was launched as part of entrepreneurship@UBC on January 18, 2011 and will run until March 31, 2011. Under this initiative, start-ups from the UBC Community (students, faculty, staff and recent alumni) will be able to apply for up to $5,000 in services from the UILO. These services can include a combination of market assessments, intellectual property assessments, business planning, grant writing, company-in-a-box resources and more. Successful companies will be matched with business mentors.

The MBA & ECM Programs Office has been advised by the BCC that Summer Study Abroad and Strategy Consulting Mentorship Program (SCMP) will likely have conflicting demands and timelines. The SCMP is a very intensive program; it is quite likely that either the SCMP or the Summer Study Abroad experience would suffer if students attempt to do both.
If you are considering SCMP and a Summer Study Abroad, please speak with your career coach to get specific program dates and information for summer 2011 activities and review them against the Summer Study Abroad Program you are considering to ensure that there are no conflicts.
It is very important that students who are selected to participate in SCMP or Summer Study Abroad are able to commit 100% to the program requirements.
