BAPA 580 – Public-Private Partnerships – P2 – Space Still Available

Interested in understanding the drivers and concepts behind public-private partnerships? Want to hear from CEO guest speakers from across North America on this topic? Read on for more reasons why this course may appeal to you…

Governments world-wide have been looking at public-private partnerships (P3s) as a way to involve the private sector in the delivery of public services such as transit, schools, hospitals and prisons. The objective is to harness the forces of competition and the innovative potential of the private sector to deliver high-quality services to citizens while optimizing value-for-money to government.

The course, delivered over six evening sessions at Robson Square, is led by professors from UBC’s Sauder School of Business and Department of Civil Engineering, as well as by prominent public and private sector experts in the P3 industry. Guest speakers include the likes of Dr. Larry Blaine, former President and CEO of Partnership BC, John Haythorne, Partner of Fraser Milner Casgrain LLP and Nicholas Hann, Managing Director of Macquarie North America to name just a few.

Attending these sessions will help you:

  • Understand the drivers and concepts behind P3s
  • Recognize the costs and benefits and how these compare with other procurement methods
  • Learn about the financing of P3s
  • Identify, price and allocate risks in P3 projects
  • Understand the components of a sustainable long-term concession agreement
  • Assess “value for money” in P3 arrangements
