Buying Course Packages and Textbooks

Just a friendly reminder to pick up any textbooks/custom course packs from the bookstore before the start of Period 2 (February 27-April 7th).

Some instructors will have pre-readings for students to work on before the first day of classes. Please ensure that you review your course outlines carefully to determine what materials you will need to complete your pre-readings.

It is common for instructors to require students to buy a textbook and/or course package for their module. It is your responsibility to check the outline for each module you are taking to find out if there are any required materials for you to purchase.

Additional information on buying materials online etc. can be found on Vista under:  Home Page›Post-Core Modules›FAQ’s-Help & Advice

BAPA 580 Understanding Public-Private Partnerships

Thank you for your responses to our survey regarding moving P2 module BAPA 580 Understanding Public-Private Partnerships from Robson Square to Pt Grey.
We have determined that it would do more harm than good to move this module, so it will remain at Robson Square.

If you are taking a class from 4-6pm on Thursday you can still register in BAPA 580. Your 4-6pm class should end at 5:50pm and we have notified the instructor for BAPA 580 that some students may arrive a bit late to the start of class because of this.

BAFI 502 002 – Capital Structure – now offered in P3

We are very pleased to now be able to offer an additional Finance module in Period 3, and have scheduled BAFI 502 002 Capital Structure into your program, to be taught by James Park.

Instructor availability is such that this module needs to be taught on a weekend model and will be taught on the following dates:

  • Saturday April 28th, 8am-5pm
  • Friday May 11th, 5pm-9:30pm
  • Sunday May 13th, 8am-5pm
  • Exam to be held during regular exam week: May 21-25th

We hope that those students interested in taking this module, and particularly those who have chosen Finance as their specialization, will be able to fit it into their schedule. If you wish to overload with this module you can fill out the overload form here (we will confirm once P2 grades have come in).

The module is available for registration on the SSC.

If you have any questions about this offering or need help revising your schedule please contact Theresa Scott.

Overloading or Auditing modules for Period 2

As we near the end of Period 1 you may be thinking about requesting to overload a module for your Period 2 schedule.

You will find the Overloading Policy attached, and also on your Vista site. The online request to overload form can be found here: https://secure.sauder.ubc.ca/mba/overload_request/overload_request.cfm

You will need to have an 80% average in your Post-Core modules in order to qualify to overload – once you have sent your request in we need to wait until your grades from P1 are in prior to confirming any overloads.

Please also note that overloading of modules prior to going on exchange does not exempt students from taking a full course load at their exchange partner school. Our exchange agreements are predicated upon students participating and contributing fully at their exchange partner school, and this includes taking a full course load.

If you are interested in auditing a module in P2, rather than overloading, please note that all auditing of MBA modules is unofficial and there will be no record on your transcript. You will need to approach the instructor directly to receive permission to audit their module, and the instructor will let you know what level of participation will be required of you. Please note that some instructors may not allow auditing due to space restrictions or how the material is taught. Auditors do not have access to the course Vista sites.

Any questions? Please email askmba@sauder.ubc.ca.

Presentations are coming, are you ready?

Odds are this term you’re working on a presentation project for your class. Let us help you make your presentation one to remember.
