Period 2 – Dates, Schedule, Registration, Communication

Period 2 – timing & schedule
Period 2 dates are Monday Oct 29th – Saturday Dec 8th, as per the Periods 2-5 Schedule linked to from your Connect site here: myMBA Program > Schedules & Registration > Schedules

If you haven’t looked over the Schedules & Registration or Tracks & Modules tabs in the myMBA Program section of Connect I would recommend you do so prior to the start of P2 as there is a lot of useful information on there for you.

If you are unsure that you are registered in the correct modules you can review the registration instructions on Connect or the registration blog post.

All schedules are also posted on the Current Students website: http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/Programs/MBA/MBA_Full_Time/Current_Students. The Current Students website is on the main Sauder website and is where we keep the up-to-date versions of program schedules, exam schedules and module outlines. We link to this page from Connect so that this information is also available in Connect but we only have to update it in one location. You may wish to bookmark this address as it is a useful site to refer to.

Communication & Contacts for P2-P7
The google calendar on your Connect dashboard will still be used for the rest of your program but specific module information (assignment due dates) will not be posted as it begins to vary too much from student to student. We have already entered the main program dates in this calendar for you (eg start & end dates for the periods), along with when exam weeks are and any events that are required for you to attend or that pertain to the whole class. The BCC will also continue to use this calendar so it is still a live resource for you.

Cherry Wang and Theresa Scott will be your main contacts at the MBA & ECM Programs Office for P2-P7 (instead of Alex & Jenny), but if in doubt please email askmba@sauder.ubc.ca and we will route your email accordingly.

Module Outlines – now posted for P2

The module outlines are now available on the Current Students section of the website (under the Modules tab). You will also find the link on Connect: myMBA Program > Tracks & Modules > Modules.

Where we do not yet have an updated outline for 2012/2013 we have provided an outline from last year (if available). If the instructor is the same, then the outline for this year should be relatively similar to last year’s. If the instructor is different you can still get an idea of what the module will be like, but there will likely be changes once the outline is updated for the new instructor.

Please ensure that you are referring to an up-to-date module outline when purchasing textbooks or course materials, and when planning your reading/studying assignments.

If your module is starting soon and there is no updated outline please contact the instructor directly with any questions you might have about the syllabus.

Business Card Ordering

All students are strongly encouraged to order business cards through the Sauder School of Business by completing an online web form at the link provided below.

Business cards are powerful networking tools and the most professional way to present yourself to the business community.  By ordering through the Sauder channel students will not only receive high-quality business cards but will benefit from aligning themselves with the Sauder/RHL brand.  As you know the Sauder brand has strong awareness and positive recognition from the business community across Canada.

When placing your order please follow these guidelines:

  • Ensure the program name is listed in full:  “MBA Candidate, Class of 2014”
  • Ensure that you put “2014” (not ’14)

Example:

John Smith
MBA Candidate, Class of 2014

Example for MBAS or Club Executives:

John Smith
MBA Candidate, Class of 2014
MBA Student Society, VP External

Additionally, please ensure that per the guidelines under “My Image Tools” in the BCC Connect site, you should use a professional looking email address.

You can place your order at the following link: http://www.sauder.ubc.ca/Resources/The_Store/business_cards

Students are strongly encouraged to place their orders through our business school as our overarching goal is to present a consistent and strong brand identity for the MBA program. However students wishing to order business cards through outside agencies should adhere to the guidelines provided above regarding the program name and reference to the year of program completion. Please note that business cards ordered through outside agencies are not permitted to have the University or Sauder/Robert H. Lee logo incorporated due to copyright.

Timing Note: There is approximately, a 10-day lead time to receiving your cards. The BCC-hosted Business Now Event is in October 30th. If you are planning on attending, please leave plenty of time. Do not hesitate to contact your Graduate Careers team at the BCC if you have any further questions on this.

Mr. Pierik created the initial concept and business in the Technology Entrepreneurship course in 2010 and, with the hard work of his team and advisors, is on the verge of launching products into Mexico and Latin America. He’s excited to come out to tell you about his experiences.

2013 International Collegiate Business Strategy Competition

What is the Competition?

In this competition, university teams of four to six students take over the management of a simulated manufacturing company competing directly against 4-5 other firms run by competitor teams from other universities. Teams in the competition are divided into “worlds” of about four to six companies with undergraduate teams and MBA teams having their own worlds. Each team assumes responsibility for key strategic and operational decisions in marketing, finance, and operations. Team members have the experience of running their own company as they strive to outperform their rivals.

Registration: The deadline for registration is November 30, 2012.

About the Competition:

The Competition consists of a Preliminary Round and a Final Round, with cases prepared by investment banking professionals to closely reflect the work of analysts and associates at investment banks. The top ten MBA teams and top fifteen undergraduate teams are chosen from the Preliminary Round to compete in the Final Round for a $10,000 prize pool.
