Join us on Thursday, January 17th, 2013 at the Sauder School of Business to watch this provocative film and participate in a thought-provoking panel discussion with industry experts.

Men and women welcome!

Space is limited, get your ticket online now!

Film Details
Written and directed by Jennifer Siebel Newsom, Miss Representation exposes how mainstream media contribute to the under-representation of women in positions of power and influence in North America. The film challenges the media’s limited and often disparaging portrayals of women and girls, which make it difficult for women to achieve leadership positions and for the average woman to feel powerful herself. www.missrepresentation.org

Panel Discussion
After the screening, learn more through an informative discussion on women and media with panelists:

Bob Elton, former CEO of BC Hydro and member of the Minerva Board of Directors

B-clinic Projects – information for interested students

b-clinic projects

If you wish to engage in a b-clinic project, you will have to complete this as an independent study module. To initiate a b-clinic directed study, you should sign up through the b-clinic platform and be matched with a suitable b-clinic project.

In consultation with the Associate Dean, Professional Graduate Programs, who will serve as the faculty supervisor for the project, you will then complete a Directed Study form (download from the Academic Policies folder on Connect: myMBA Program > Academic Policies) outlining the scope of the study and method of evaluation.   The Associate Dean may appoint a different faculty supervisor for some projects.

The proposal must be signed by the Associate Dean, Professional Graduate Programs and the student and submitted to the MBA & ECM Programs Office via askmba@sauder.ubc.ca for approval prior to the beginning of the period during which it is to be carried out.  If the project will be conducted by a team of students, each student will complete a separate form, and attach a common project description.

After submission and approval of the written proposal, students will be enrolled in BA** 590 by the MBA & ECM Programs Office.

As the work-load expected is generally similar to that of a regular module, a b-clinic directed study will carry a credit value of 1.5 credits and will be assigned a percentage grade by the supervisor.  (Note that a maximum of 3 credits of Directed Study coursework can be taken towards an MBA degree.)

A b-clinic directed study module is considered a regular MBA module for the purpose of overloading, so any student wishing to take a b-clinic directed study module in addition to their regular module load would need to apply for permission to overload.

The b-clinic directed study module cannot be used as a replacement for an existing module, or towards a Track or Program required module.

Overloading Policy

As you begin making preparations for the upcoming Period, you may be thinking about requesting to overload a module in your Period 3 schedule.

You will find the Overloading Policy on your Connect site here: Home Page>myUBC MBA myMBA Program>Academic Policies>Overloading Information & Application Process

The online request to overload form can be found here: https://secure.sauder.ubc.ca/mba/overload_request/overload_request.cfm

You will need to have a cumulative grade point average in your Post-IF modules (not IF, but from P2 onwards) of at least 80% in order to qualify to overload – once you have sent your request we need to wait until your grades from P2 are in prior to confirming any overloads.

Overloading is permitted in P3, P4, P6 and P7. Students may be permitted to overload in P5 if they have already secured their Experiential Learning experience (eg: internship etc).

Please also note that overloading of modules prior to going on exchange does not exempt students from taking a full course load at their exchange partner school. Our exchange agreements are predicated upon students participating and contributing fully at their exchange partner school, and this includes taking a full course load.

As a reminder, if you are interested in auditing a module in P3, rather than overloading, please note that all auditing of MBA modules is unofficial and there will be no record on your transcript. You will need to approach the instructor directly to receive permission to audit their module, and the instructor will let you know what level of participation will be required of you. Please note that some instructors may not allow auditing due to space restrictions or how the material is taught.

Lastly, just a reminder about module selections. If you’re trying to decide between two modules, attend both the first week of class and then make your decision so you don’t miss out on important information.

Any questions? Please email askmba@sauder.ubc.ca.
