Registration for P3-P5 opens this Friday, 10am – reminder and tips
Just a reminder that registration for your P3 – 5 modules opens this Friday morning, Nov 23rd, at 10am. Registration will stay open and you will be able to add/drop modules right through the first week of classes for each period.
Registration is on a first-come-first-served basis so please keep this in mind. Registration in FT MBA modules will open for the PT MBA students one week after it opens for you, so I strongly recommend you register within the week.
The schedule was updated yesterday as we found an error on it – BAEN 505 Entrepreneurial Finance is scheduled for M/W 8-10 in P5 (not M/W 4-6 as was listed on one page).
Tips:
Info on P3-P5
The powerpoint presentation I referred to at the Tracks Presentation Day in October is on your Connect site here: myMBA Program > Tracks & Modules > Career Tracks
Planning
Print off a copy of the schedule and refer to this in conjunction with your track requirements worksheets when making your module choices. The schedule tells you the name of the module, along with the section numbers available. Module outlines are available online – if the outline is not current but the instructor is the same as last year’s then the module will be similar. If there is no current outline you can contact the instructor directly if you need more details.
Pre-requisites
The Pre-req list is also posted on your Connect site on the Tracks page as well as the Modules page. Please keep pre-reqs in mind when registering.
P3 modules – total of 7.5 credits (1.5 credits for BA 560 Responsible Business, 6.0 credits of modules)
When registering in P3 please make sure you are taking the 2 Track Required modules for the track you are most interested in taking. If you are undecided between two tracks, the other modules you should take are the 2 Track Required modules for the other track you are interested in. If you are clear on which track you will take, you can take your Track Req’d modules and any other 2 modules of interest to you offered in P3.
P4 – 6.0 credits (1.5 credits for BA 561 Global Issues & Macroeconomics, 4.5 credits of modules)
When registering in P4 modules please refer to the track requirements worksheet for the track you are most interested in taking, and make sure you are registering in any that are Track Required.
P5 – 4.5 credits (You will finish up BA 562 Creativity, and take a maximum of 4.5 credits, 3 modules – overloading is not permitted in P5 unless you have your Internship/Project for the summer already finalized)
When registering in P5 modules please refer to the track requirements worksheet for the track you are most interested in taking, and make sure you are registering in any that are Track Required.
Timetable function on SSC
Please note that how you view your schedule at the moment on the Timetable page on the SSC will not show your P3-P5 modules correctly and it will appear that there are overlaps. The SSC system does not recognize 6 week courses, and cannot differentiate between Periods, so your modules won’t show correctly on the Timetable page. The registration system will not allow you to register in conflicting modules, but the timetable will make it appear so, since it will show your modules across all the periods at the same time. This is something we are working with central UBC to fix, but it’s a project that takes time.
Please direct any registration questions to askmba@sauder.ubc.ca.
Grade Requirements for Evaluation & Promotion in FT MBA Program
The policy for Grade Requirements for Evaluation & Promotion in the FT MBA Program has now been posted on your Connect site here: myMBA Program > Academic Policies
60% is the minimum you must achieve for a passing grade in the post-IF modules & mini-modules. 60-67% is considered a low grade. Students who achieve a grade of less than 68% will receive a letter from the Grades Review Committee cautioning that they are at academic risk.
You may receive a maximum of 3.0 credits below 60% while in the MBA Program. This means that you can fail the equivalent of 3.0 credits, but cannot fail more than 3.0 credits.
Please remember that mini-modules count for 0.75 credits, and regular modules are 1.5 credits each.
You are also only allowed to have a certain number of credits in the “low grade” range of 60-67%. How many will depend on what the mix of low or failed grades is for you. The following table outlines the possible mixes:
| Below 60% | 60-67% Range | |
| You can remain in the program as long as you have: | No more than 3 credits | |
| 3 credits | No more than 4.5 credits | |
| 1.5 credits | No more than 6.0 credits | |
| No more than 9.0 credits |
Please refer to the full policy for all the details. Any questions can be directed to askmba@sauder.ubc.ca
